Truth is though, that although I have the
confidence, your slouching habit doesn’t actually show that to the world. I
have a confession to make. I have bad posture. On my blog I have been
advocating on how important it is to look confident, walk straight and face the
world with confidence. Be brave to face the journey of life you have to take.
Bad Posture
Got a bad posture? That was mercilessly teased, so I
guess your natural instinct was to just lower your face and hide it. Even though
risen above all that and now feel confident about your appearance and yourself,
but still slouching isn’t it. And although you have tried over the years to
improve it, you have never succeeded. The problem is that when you have been
slouching for as long as you have live, your whole body adapts to it. Which has
never been perfectly fixed. Your neck changes, shoulders are turned inward,
stomach is at a different place from where it is supposed to be.
So when you sit as you’re supposed to, everything hurts. It’s a position that is just so uncomfortable for your body that you can’t maintain it for much longer than 20 minutes. I’ve known this for quite a while. In fact you can still remember your mother telling you as a nine year old to walk straight, stomach in, head forward. Problem was, you didn’t have the confidence to face the world head on then.
Improvement
All
of this will get even worse when I’m older. Something needs to be done and I
need to start taking action right now. But it’s now getting to a point where I
can no longer ignore it. I have constant lower back ache, my frequent headaches
may be caused by my poor posture as well, and my appearance suffers greatly.
Take action and change life.
1.
Started
to do regular yoga classes to improve strength and flexible in your entire body
which will also help to open up the shoulders and maintain proper posture. A
lot of the strength from staying upright actually comes from the legs and yoga
really helps to strengthen those.
2.
Started
to take palate’s classes to get more strength in your core, which will
help to get the strength to keep your back in a straight position.
3.
Sitting
(and you do a lot of that…) is far more of a challenge though. Very aware of body
posture now and walk straight whenever you can. Have a visit seeing an
osteopathist. Or went to a chiropractor and another posture improvement
specialist.
4.
Getting
a back support for your chair (will improve your posture). Start sitting
properly in your chair. If you start finding your straight sitting position
unbearable, you will have to start doing yoga or other exercises or do chores
around the house.
5.
Start
the process with one special week. And the important is discipline.Posture
Perhaps you had similar issues and overcame them? Or
perhaps you want to start improving your posture with me so that we can do it
together and hold each other accountable. But I thought it may be
interesting to get feedback from some of you on this issue as well. Initially,
I thought that I would do all this and then, when I would succeed, I could
write this fantastic post on how to improve posture and how I did it.
Additional Tips
“It’s time to straighten up and fly right”.
You have to do something about your bad posture. Don't just sit and blame yourself for what you have. The bad posture can be adjust and trust me it will make your life even better with great confident and more energy to take the challenging life in the future.
